Pros

- Pretty good medical benefits - Company matches 401 K at 4%, 10% retirement plan contribution made quarterly by the company - Good paid time off accrual - Good tuition reimbursement program ($10K a year) - Low expectations of employees, good place to get your feet wet in the industry.

Cons

- Low employee morale, especially with higher levels and/or more tenured employees who have seen more. - Reviews are very subjective and bonuses are decided by how much your managers likes you compared to your peers. - While there are "in crowds" everywhere, they are here too. - Very inexperienced managment team once you leave PA and the highest ranks, most management members are under 50 with the majority under 40. This might cause some of the issues. - Once you escape the phone jobs, you are considered exempt for the most part and aren't paid OT for hours worked above 37.50

Pros

Some of the best things about Vanguard is that they go out of their way to boost employee morale. They take every opportunity to provide recognition when deserved. Your expectations are clearly outlined for you so you are never left in the dark as far as your performance goes. The management team is respectful and sensitive to work/life balance. Employee development is a top priority and they put effort into advancing people's careers. The 401k match and contribution are also top rate.

Cons

Promotions can be very political and based upon not who can do the job best but rather who the hiring manager likes the best. Also, salaries are much below wht other companies pay.

Pros

Vanguard does a great job of training its representatives. It is a great place to start a career or end a career, for individuals in the middle it isn't always the best place to advance your career. Dependable ethical financial firm, no history of lay offs even in a down market.

Cons

Vanguard offers many opportunities to move laterally, however, it can be difficult to advance rather quickly. There have been many qualified individuals, with degrees, who had been with the firm, performed very well, who have been passed over for the individual selected fresh from college designated for a supervisory position or higher level position. I personally don't have a problem with this practice in moderation, however, this seems to be the trend. If you were not hand selected for a specific position you will have to work twice as hard to achieve it.
