Pros

Work-life balance is one of the strongest points of this company. Everyone has a ridiculous amount of vacation days from the very beginning. The salary is reasonable but not outstanding; the profit-sharing and bonus are nice. The benefits are very good, and the retirement plan is structured to make it easy to start building up money for retirement without even having to try that hard.

Cons

Overly formal, not at all a meritocracy. Everything moves at a snail's pace and becomes wrapped in layers of red tape. If you are looking for a fast-paced job where you can rise quickly through the ranks if you work hard - this is definitely NOT it. Promotions are based on "who knows you", so be prepared to schmooze if you want to get ahead. Overt criticism or questioning of accepted wisdom, even when necessary and constructive, is often not welcomed.

Pros

Pretty much entirely comprised of young people, so a great job right out of school since your colleagues and contacts are all people your age. Also, they will sponsor you for your licenses

Cons

They pay barely enough to live on. Work is incredibly boring and unchallenging, especially at the entry level. Opportunities for growth are basically nonexistent. The micromanagement that goes is no ridiculous and excessive it just starts to become funny. A word of advice to any prospective applicants or current employees is this: once you get your licenses, do whatever it takes to leave

Pros

This is a great company that has endless possibilities for advancement. Even in a poor economy there is little fear of downsizing. The company is buying other companies, and expanded

Cons

There are some negative feelings about Vanguard in the financial industry. These are opinions that have stuck around from the days gone bye. There were some poor decisions made in the past, and those have stuck with the company now, even though things now are much better
