Pros

There are a lot of good natured hardworking people that work at Vanguard. Most of the job functions are low stress. There seems to be plenty of job security. Vanguard is big on education and teaching you the basics of the industry and the Vanguard invest philosophy. You can take this education and use it as springboard into a career in financial services.

Cons

Disconnect between management and crew. You have to sip the company koolaid and kiss tail to get ahead. Political is a good word... Pay is lacking and the pay scale is too rigid. The company is very conservative in nature. This conservative approach is applied to everything within the company - pay, culture, perks. It does not pay to bust your rear at Vanguard. Everyone is paid the same whether you're an over achiever or you under achieve. Lower level management seems to be a reward for years of service as there are multiple examples of supervisors who can not manage or lead.

Pros

The benefits are great, the campus is beautiful. It's a pretigious company so it will look good on the resume.

Cons

Vanguard uses an antiquated DOS computer system (if you can believe that) for the management of client accounts which creates all kinds of complexities and problems for staff including errors. The salaries are very low - especially considering the work involved. The workload is crushing and most of the people that I work with have to work through their lunches just to keep from falling behind. Overtime is discouraged, yet staff are expected to keep up with production quotas that are excessive (hence people having to work through their lunches).
