Pros

very interesting new technologies to work with in software development especially in the newer projects. So there is a lot to learn. A good place for a developer who is passionate about working on new cutting-edge technologies. the new products have very clean code. Vecima has a tightly controlled code-review process. So future maintenance of that code base should be a good experience. the management is very nice. Very nice and respectful people. They are open to hearing your concerns. they may be slow to respond or respond in a way you don't expect, but your job is not at risk when you speak up to voice issues. there is no undue pressure to deliver work. So good for work-life balance. very profitable debt-free company. They manage money very carefully ... maybe too carefully. software developers have team meetings using online video conference tools. this works great for multi-site development and also for when a developer needs to work remotely for some time. Management is very accommodating. developers are given time to learn the necessary skills they need to do their work management is willing to allow developers to relocate to the offices in BC from SK or vice-versa. But they prefer if you work in SK

Cons

for the bigger urgent projects, the leads have too many people working for them. So many developers may end-up neglected, idling, and don't get good mentorship or training. if a developer is not proactive, it can take a very long time for them to get their code through the slow code review process. A developer can literally idle away weeks worth of time. pay increases are not based on performance. But everyone gets a decent pay rise every year. however, you can get over-time pay if you are lucky to work on an overtime approved project. bonuses are not really bonuses but small tokens of appreciation for loyalty to the company. They amount to a few hundred dollars a year, and it depends on how long you have worked for the company. it may not be the best place for someone who is "in it for the money". however, it is a great place for someone who is "in it for the cutting edge work". the cable tv industry is changing fast and so vecima will have to change its products and business model. this causes some uncertainty about what to expect 2-3 years from now.

Pros

Depending on your team, work can be slow or very interesting. In my team, there is literally something new to learn every day. Never a dull moment.

Cons

Pay is below average. I can get much higher pay elsewhere but I like my work so much I just can't bring myself to leave just yet.

Pros

Good work life balance. Colleagues are friendly.

Cons

Manager is not an easy going person. They don't treat you well. You have to struggle a lot even for applying a single leave. The pay is very low. The increment is also very very percent. They are not professional at all. A bit partial towards local employees. Notice Period: They say its 1 month, but there is some hidden rule that you will get to know once you join the company. For instance if you resign on 15th December, 2015, they will relieve you on 31st January, 2016 wherein they should have relieved you on 14th January, 2016. The rules are crazy. Due to this you may miss good opportunity at your next company. The notice period not negotiable and no buy out option. If you have no other option, work here for not more than 18 months and move on to some other company with better job prospects.
