Pros

You may receive a slightly higher salary than you would elsewhere, but you’ll soon find yourself questioning if it’s worth it.

Cons

Working at Venable Blue is like stepping into a dystopian corporate nightmare characterized by chaos, poor leadership, and empty promises. The management isn’t just ineffective—it’s erratic, fostering a toxic environment where employees are overworked and undervalued. The turnover rate tells the story: people don’t just leave, they escape. The company’s appeal mirrors that of The Wizard of Oz: behind the curtain, an operation is overseen by volatile leaders who govern through fear, not by motivating or inspiring others. There is zero emotional intelligence in the workplace or among management. Leaders feign concern, but their actions betray a lack of empathy, leaving employees to fend for themselves in an environment that punishes vulnerability and rewards silence. Beyond poor leadership, the workplace culture is deeply corrosive, undermining the very values it claims to uphold. Teamwork and integrity are touted in rhetoric but absent in practice. Favoritism runs rampant, protecting a select few while others are bullied or scapegoated. This dynamic doesn’t just create tension—it ruins morale and damages employees’ sense of self-worth, leaving them demoralized and bitter. To endure at Venable Blue, one must either thrive on dysfunction or develop a high tolerance—or a prescription—for coping with mismanagement and stress.

Pros

Great people to work with, work ebbs and flows, and HR always has events/gives us gifts.

Cons

Not enough assistants, so you'll be working in numerous practice groups. High turnover, so sometimes long-term projects get dropped. Venable LLP is expanding into different markets, so they are cutting costs by not investing in support staff.

Pros

Other than the pay (that comes at the cost of your mental health, and self - dignity), there are absolutely no benefits to joining Venable Blue. New graduates, please do not take this job because of the pay.

Cons

Toxic and fear mongering workplace. In the span of the past year, MULTIPLE hired managers have left within the span of a month or two. That alone should flag what kind of environment this is. If that doesn't convince you, let me paint a picture of what it's like to work here. Top management genuinely does not respect you as a human being, unless you are blatantly a part of their favorite few. They communicate with you through either through direct threats or passive aggression. This normalized environment then trickles down to the associates. HR has done nothing to curb this behavior, even when we have communicated this multiple times through our yearly reviews. This is a culture of micromanagement, HEAVY favoritism, poor communication, lack of transparency, unrealistic expectations that cross boundaries, resistance to feedback, microaggressions towards minorities, and glory seeking.
