Pros

Venmo is a great place. Our office is shiny and new and we get free lunch everyday. I hear we're also looking into getting a yoga studio. We have free food all day, breakfast and lunch and snacks are in constant supply, and every Thursday is cocktail night. Every other Friday we have an open dev day where we can work on anything we want. As engineers, we have retrospectives every month where we discuss things that we like and don't like, and what we say is always taken into account. Because we're still pretty small (honestly, the PayPal buy didn't really affect us much), it's easy for an individual to take an initiative on something and really make an impact with the company.

Cons

All the food is REALLY healthy. I know that's definitely a first-world problem. But sometimes you just want a chocolate or something. Because we're small and we're growing SO much, everyone always has a lot to do. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes it can be a little hectic. There's not too many mentorship opportunities, but I think that's again from lack of people.

Pros

The people are awesome, everyone works hard and is not afraid to challenge the status quo in order to build great products. The user base is growing very quickly, which provides scary but fun engineering challenges and also means morale is typically very high. It's still an exciting phase in the history of the company even though we're now owned by PayPal.

Cons

Some of the technical team early on were inexperienced in terms of writing maintainable, well-unit-tested code and there's still some tech debt to recover from. But I've never seen a startup where this is not the case; if a startup isn't valuing product innovation over clean code in the very beginning they likely won't be around long enough for it to even matter.

Pros

Free Food Money is is not just good. Money is great!! There are some decent people. Work-Life balance is amazing because there is no expectation to actually work.

Cons

It's horrible. Nobody is being held accountable. YOu can do whatever You want, no consequences. Don't like to built a quality product? no problem. Don't care about the product? No problem. LITERALLY don't show up for work for 3 days a week? No problem. Carefuly that you don't cross anyone. Show initiative? Big problem. Offer better options? Bigger problem. Want a career and build good products? Don't come here, it WILL ruin you.
