Pros

Flexibility in work from management. Requirement to preform is the most important thing. Pay was good for the surrounding area.

Cons

Morale was low due to the fact much of the work was outsourced to other countries. Also, the work load was becoming too much for some people.

Pros

There are few (and fewer each year) electronic product design firms in the Rocklin/Roseville area, so VeriFone is at least a design position. However, after Nov 2006, when VeriFone purchased Lipman, design work has shifted to Israel and the work in Rocklin is more systems engineering (except for OS design) and field/product support.

Cons

Senior management lives all over the state; there is none at Rocklin. The CEO runs the company for his personal gain; bonuses of any magnitude go only to the very top managers. Sales did 3 complete turnovers between 2001 and 2006 - the unspoken motto is "Sales is King" and should be followed by "What have you done for me lately?" Management is results oriented and people are just workunits to be applied to projects. Check your brain at the door if you decide to work here. Morale is non-existant; few long-term MTS (but many in senior management - they protect themselves).

Pros

Verifone is a large, far-flung company with a diverse and talented workforce. The people you work with will generally be competent and professional; benefits are generous, though benefits have generally declined over the past few years. If you have a deep, narrow talent, you can expect a salary premium. If you enjoy working in a tactical environment, with short horizons, this is the place for you, especially if there is an exact fit.

Cons

Opportunities for a true career are limited to a very few now that VeriFone has perfected the are of the layoff. There is little recognition of individual achievement unless you are working on projects important to management. Don't expect long hours and loyal contributions to the bottom line to be job security insurance. Many people working at VeriFone think management tends to have blinders on when it comes to keeping the basics running, and rely on firefighting for the worst of the problems as they crop up. To some in upper management, this appears to be considered a valid cost savings strategy. Upper management is generally insensitive to the average employee except where it is a) a pet project of upper management or b)a cost reduction exercise. Do not expect meaningful or timely communication about things critical to your success or survival at VeriFone, e.g., reorganizations, changes in budgets, project priorities. Do not expect org charts; org charts only emphasize the churn and transition that has defined the company in recent years. Recognize that when project and priorities shift, people are shed. Don't expect meaningful participation in strategic planning, as virtually all strategy is top-down. Accept that reviews will generally be lip-service exercises.
