Pros

The pay at Verizon is very competitive, and the benfits are great if you are full time. Being part-time , I paid $100 out of my pay check every 2 weeks to keep benefits. I worked in "collections", so I took payments over the phone and also called people to let them know their phones would be disconnected after the call if they did not make payment. It truely is a great company to work for, however, I would have much rather been in the Sales at the retail stores rather than in the Call Center. I left for another job where I would not be bored to death in front of the computer. 4 hours a day was killing me, I could have never handled full time.

Cons

Call center environment can be very boring.

Pros

Benefits, above avg pay, but not for most contractors

Cons

Dismal treatment of contractors, continuous offshoring and layoffs that cause low morale, extreme overtime, total chaos due to inadequate management. As a contractor & former employee of Verizon Business (the former MCI / WorldCom), I see the work environment keeps deteriorating. It used to be a great place to work when it was MCI! WorldCom ruined it. The merger with Verizon has improved things somewhat, though.

Pros

The pay and benefits at Verizon are the best in the industry.

Cons

There is very limited opportunity for growth in many non-management positions. Even if you use the educational benefits and get all the degrees and certificates available, unfortunately, in order to put those skills to work, you will likely be forced to seek employment elsewhere. Many employees promoted to management positions have only demonstrated the ability to do their previous job well and have not demonstrated the ability to lead. Consequently, many employees holding management positions do not understand how job satisfaction directly affects employee performance and attendance, which in turn directly affects customer satisfaction.
