Pros

Verkada has great benefits -- daily meals, wellness stipend, 100% covered health insurance, etc. I met fantastic people while working there -- my team was great, the people in my cohort are awesome and we planned outings together. Super young/fresh out of college if that's what you're looking for. Great opportunities for career growth. Most of the people I worked with were promoted quickly through the sales org into AE and managerial roles.

Cons

There's a lot of things I wish I knew before accepting my offer. A big one is that you will NOT receive commission. I did not know that this was out of the norm for SDR roles. And the base is lower than industry standard as well. Most tech SDR roles offer close to 100k after commission. Verkada offers 50k. MDRs take a pay cut when they are funneled into the program. Secondly, you will be making 100 to 200 calls daily to hit activity metrics. If you love to cold call, then great, this is for you, however, you will not have access to Linkedin Sales Nav or be encouraged to engage in email campaigns. Third, you will be working close to 12 hours daily if you want to keep your weekends free. I had to give up things like family birthdays because I had to study for weekly test outs. In order to graduate from the program, you need to have essentially all greens on your "report card". What this means is 100% on every single test out, exceed quota during bootcamp (which they raise every time a new cohort comes through) and exceed the number of qualified opportunities every 70 days. If you consistently do not get greens, you will have a talk with one of the managers and the director of the program. Fourth, they funnel in a new cohort every two weeks. This means that the AAE program has over 50 AAEs just in the HQ office with only two sales development managers in office. The sales development managers are young with some of them in the AE role less than a year before getting promoted to manager. It can feel like you are just a number in their program. Lastly, it wasn't uncommon to see my coworkers crying on the job and sharing horror stories about the work environment with one another. If you're interviewing with Verkada I'd ask a lot about the work culture since it's 100% in office and I'd reach out to current AAEs on Linkedin.

Pros

Nice welcome kit, catered lunches, great sales stack, can make decent money if you get the right territory, some great teammates and colleagues with solid experience to learn from. There's plenty of potential for advancement to Enterprise, to management or to other offices potentially. If you have little experience in sales, can be a good company to help break into tech sales.

Cons

I'll do my best to give you the full snapshot of my experience here. You'll be on a 300-350k quota, average transactions are around $10-15k, it's a transactional game here. As it stands with 1 week left to go in the quarter about 35 of the 150 reps have hit or exceeded quota. Yes, there's some who land the big deals. A few reps have sold over $1,000,000 this quarter. However, there's around 150 reps selling, territories will continue to get cut as we grow. The hope is to get to 1,000 employees in the next year. The top reps that do well, have great territories and get plenty of deals from the channel (ie. they don't source them). The reps that struggle are the ones that seem to have got the short end of the stick, whether it be a tough territory or no help from channel partners or not being part of that "inner circle". In the mid-market space, many mangers were high performing reps that got promoted but don't have previous leadership experience. That's to be expected in a fast-moving rocket ship. But, that leads to them asking for constant updates in your pipeline, wanting to be on all your closing calls and your typical micromanagement activities. There isn't much in the way of leading, inspiration or coaching reps to help get them to where they want to go. It often feels like they're coming to you with their hands out, asking for more and giving little in return. If you reach out for help, the typical response from my managers has been to 'increase activity', 'make more dials', 'send more sequenced emails'. Most people have been asked to come back to the office. It's looked down upon if you choose to work remotely. Ultimately, this probably sounds like a whole lot of bashing but I'm just trying to give my personal experience here.

Pros

Free food and snacks, great office and location

Cons

Now there are many job openings online because quite a few people have recently left. One of the best hardware engineers I worked with was fired a few months ago due to the toxic culture in the camera hardware team. It was a great shame for his managers to do this since he had helped solve almost all the critical issues for the product before its launch, and then he was suddenly let go. Some higher level people spoiled the EPMs for no reason, and one or two of these EPMs who was or is still on the team is the root cause of such toxic vibes. This includes, but is not limited to, talking behind someone's back and creating dramas. Another engineer left due to lack of supervision and mentoring, which is something you might expect when you join this company. If you are a fresh graduate. this is something you should really consider.
