Cons
Very high turnover of employees due to lack of opportunities for advancement and expiring grants resulting from a high proportion of retirement-age principle investigators. Management is more willing to hire outside talent instead of investing in mentoring current employees to fill more advanced positions. Employees who leave are not replaced in a timely manner, leading to more resignations due to overwork as remaining employees have to pick up slack.
