Valuable job market experience but concerns over new leadership

Pros

- Valuable to have a job in this market, and somewhere that historically pays a market rate - unlimited PTO for fulltime

Cons

- New CEO is something...concerning. Workforce reduction, replacing C-suite with former pals from previous companies, huge push on AI without the subsequent reassurance that our jobs won't be replaced. Seems like the goal is for all of us to train AI to do our jobs before getting let go. Really tone deaf when us little people have livlihoods on the line.

Pros

Strong market opportunity: they are a niche player in critical indirect tax and compliance space. With global e-invoicing and real-time reporting mandates creating significant long-term growth potential. For tech professionals there are cool technical challenges: product supports complex rules engines that power global commerce for F500. Remote first

Cons

Internal politics, favoritism, and lack of accountability: Nepotism and political alignment appear to influence key decisions. Two rounds of layoffs in 2026. senior leaders have largely avoided accountability despite owning the strategy that contributed to poor execution and falling behind competitors critical in the AI age.

Pros

Remote work Excellent people; my teammates were truly supportive and helpful at every moment while we worked together Strong focus on philanthropy

Cons

Vertex's strong culture that was there when I joined is quickly being deteriorated by new leadership within the company. Vertex used to be a different beast than most tech companies in a good way; now, they have bought into the AI hype at the expense of real talent like every other company in tech. There is no longer a focus on strong culture and now a laser-like focus on "getting ahead" on the AI train which the rest of us can see will bubble and collapse in the next few years. Leadership also makes ill-planned decisions on restructuring teams without properly training employees in their new roles, leaving individual contributors struggling and managers without a roadmap. This leads to inefficiencies across the board.
