Pros

Virginia Tech is an excellent place to work as you are getting your MA. I worked in the Communication department teaching public speaking and had the amazing opportunity to work under Brandi Quesenberry. She is an excellent role model, mentor, supervisor, and friend. Of course, the job was also accommodating, community orientated, and an excellent choice when pursuing the comms field.

Cons

Personally there are no downsides, but do keep in mind that being a GTA includes not only teaching but also being a mentor to the students.
