Pros

Hands-on experience helps you prepare for a career as a professor and researcher. Great people to work for. It pays tuition and monthly stipend. Also covers %90 of a great health insurance plan.

Cons

I didn't get any networking help from the faculty in my program. I wish they had/used connections to get me a job post-grad school, because networking is crucial for landing jobs.

Pros

The office I work in is inclusive and promotes a healthy work-life balance. We are encouraged to utilize walking meetings and avoid sitting all day at our desks. We have a family-like feel to the office and everyone collaborates well together. I feel valued and appreciated every day. I love my job, my boss, and our whole office, not to mention the campus. If it were up to me, I'd never leave, but budgets say I have to go.

Cons

I know our office is one of the better ones and that some offices are very hard on their employees. Sometimes communication between other offices is difficult. Funding. My position is 1 year, they need someone in my position permanently, as full-time faculty, not just a post-doc, but the budget isn't there. I'd stay but they can't afford to keep me.

Pros

Average experience compared to other research 1 institutions. There is an interesting startup culture, though the university tries very hard to own most of the IP. Work schedule is very lose and extremely easy to deal with.

Cons

Academic atmosphere is old-fashioned. The pay is very low, benefits are few, teaching and advising are practically non-existent.
