Pros

Virginia Tech is a great community with rigorous research standards. The school is located in Blacksburg, VA which offers plenty of activities to take the necessary breaks from work, but doesn't have too many distractions to keep one from completing their research.

Cons

Graduate teaching assistants training could be more robust. Lots of paperwork and signature requirements to get research credits processed for graduation.

Cons

Expectation that you will do whatever needed for graduate mentor, hours can be unpredictable when doing research, expensive for out of state students, slight competitive nature
