Pros

The people are caring and engaged. Great to work with. The work is interesting and the environment is exciting to be a part of. Management is very caring about their employees and supportive of a work/life balance. There are many educational classes and opportunities to improve your knowledge.

Cons

Somewhat of a bureaucracy. However, I've seen a fast paced environment with very well educated employees at the helm. Located in a small town. Could be viewed as a con, but also a good thing. Quality of life is above average.

Pros

location is good low stress Blacksburg is a special place to live. Nice mountains and streams. Nice people. Good schools. Etc.

Cons

bureaucracy is not so good low pay There is a lot of crap work to be done from forms to certifications and the like. This gives you less time for teaching and research. The pay is lower than comparable schools and industry. Working here as a professor is a choice of lifestyle over pay. Staff are under valued and appreciated and there are a lot of under performs with state mentality. The very good ones are over worked. So, tough on staff.
