Pros

The people, the support for furthering your education, and benefits are all good reasons to work here. Great community surrounding the university, wonderful for raising a family. Plenty of hikes and national forest sites to visit.

Cons

Because the university is located in southwest Virginia the opportunities that exist in large cities aren't here. No true nightlife, but if that's not important and nature is, you're in the right place.

Pros

Flexibility, Can have good work-life balance with this job. Good benefits with 5 weeks of paid-vacation time. Blacksburg has a low cost of living. Also, the campus is beautiful. People are good since it is a small town. Schools in Blacksburg are good too.

Cons

Growth may be restricted depending on position. Can get bureaucratic, In some departments there are restrictions on how much your pay can be raised. Since it is a small university town people feel the need to visit some big surrounding city like Washington, DC from time to time.

Pros

It is a good place to learn new things. Lot's of new graduate students, and smart ones too. As a graduate student i got a lot of help from my professors, and they are all very intelligent and smart. It is a good place to go to school especially if you are in engineering. Would definetly recommend anyone to go there. Also you get funded atleast for one of the semesters if you are a graduate student.

Cons

It's a university environment, so not a lot a scope to grow, but you get to learn a lot.
