Pros

- Great benefits. - Great people to work with. - Small development teams/shops allowed me to focus on all areas of the development stack without requiring me to specialize in one thing and stick to that one thing. - Management does a great job focusing on me as a person and helping me better myself professionally and as a person. - Definitely an 8-5 job. When I get off of work at 5, I don't have to worry about working at home to make a deadline, etc. Had very, very few emergency calls to step in and fix issues.

Cons

- Being a state-funded university, there aren't the "normal perks" of being a software development shop, such as the Xboxes, ping pong tables, etc. But, they try to make it comfortable with nice equipment and work areas - Without being a large development company, sometimes, the development pipeline isn't very full or flushed out, which causes downtimes. Not a huge issue, but does cause some thumb twiddling
