(Hollis,NH UltraSource branch)
For starters, the training process is horrible. They hold the trainees to a higher standard than the regular employees and expect nothing but perfection. If you make a simple mistake or even a process error when your trainer or supervisor was not overseeing/checking your work, the blame all falls on you.
For the first three tiers of your training form, you are supposed to be supervised for every process you are certifying for. I was basically shown how to do everything once and then left alone to figure it out. If I had any questions my trainer would get frustrated and give me short, vague answers I could barely understand. Eventually he just started to ignore me.
So they ended up moving me to another department where my trainer/team leader was excellent and I felt as though I was making significant progress. I passed my first assessment with the engineer with flying colors and was ready to be completely certified after the second assessmet would be taken in another week or two.
They will hire you through a temp agency and then just before you are about to be oboarded with Vishay UltraSource they will conjure up a list of reasons to fire you. I made an error that no one had a solution for and it seemed like a freak occurrence. 7/9 pieces of a work order were somehow processed wrong but nobody could tell me how or why, including the engineer. All they could say is that it was somehow my fault. Again, I was alone and had no one to vouch for me and every other work order I had completed came out absolutely perfect.
Additionally, the temp agency required you to clock in and out on an app on my phone. I often had horrible service in the building /parking lot and it was having a hard time finding a signal to access the app and clock in and out, so my manager tried to accuse me of stealing company time even though it was a tech issue with the application from the temp agency itself. I even left notes in the app that I assumed the manager would be able to see, explaining the issues with me clock-ins and outs. Apparently, management does not see these notes and was advised to email my supervisor for any future issues. This was never explained to me prior and is found nowhere in the employee handbook.
Anyways, the fact is that I was working for a temp and worked my butt off for them, worked overtime almost everyday, and then right before I hit my required “600 working hours” to be officially hired as a Vishay employee and receive their benefits, they fired me.
They also tried to offer me a starting wage of $15/hr which is ridiculous for the amount of workload, knowledge, processes to learn, and the training process. I ended up negotiating a wage of $17/hr with them when I was hired as a temp. I highly believe that this has a lot to do with why I was let go as I was probably making higher wages than other operators and probably worked there for longer than I had. You could find another manufacturing job with a different company and make $5-$10 more per hour while performing similar processes.
I was also promised a $1000 referral bonus since I had worked more than 90 days with the company but I am still waiting to see if I will receive that money I was promised.90 days came and went and then I went to HR in person to inquire about the bonus. They explained that since I was still a temp, I would have to wait for the bonus until I was on their payroll, which should have been in just a couple weeks. She looked me right in the eyes and guaranteed me I would get he $1000 bonus, I would just have to wait another few weeks. She is a liar. After I was let go, I called HR today to make sure I would still get my money but now they are refusing to pay it. All of upper management is full of liars and empty promises. They will tell employees they will be getting a promotion or a raise soon every month and nothing ever comes to fruition.
My brother has worked with UltraSource for 5 years and he will not be getting his bonus now either. Even though it was clearly stated “90 days” not “once you are on our payroll.”
They are extremely understaffed because all of their experienced operators left, due to being under-compensated and over worked.
The bottom line is that at the end of the day, this company is looking to cut corners and save money anyway they can. Before UltraSource sold out to Vishay a few years ago, they received a 30% profit sharing bonus annually. Now they get 15% and I won’t be surprised to see that percentage get lowered each year. They do not treat employees as human beings with families at home to support. They wish we were all just robots. Don’t work here. (At least at the location in Hollis, NH)
