Pros
Get to work with clients who are matched via personality with caregivers. They were a joy to walk beside on their life journey. The company works with any schedule you have and will provide more hours if requested and capable to complete the job. On-going training is required and helpful. The only helpful office staff are the ones who directly supervise caregivers (secretary and staff coordinator), and the payroll supervisor.
Cons
I was sexually assaulted by a client and the employer took no action to protect me. When I was left with no other option but to quit, they fought my unemployment claim despite written proof that they were informed of ongoing sexual assault. Team approach doesn't actually exist. The office staff is the only team while caregivers are not encouraged to work with each other unless placed in a client's home simultaneously. Everything has to go through the office, and is rarely filtered to all employees who visit a client. The only staff who are actually willing to help caregivers are the secretary and staff coordinator. The other staff does not worry about employee challenges at all, they only care about the business bottom line. This location doesn't follow Visiting Angels by-laws (it's a franchise) and they do steal clients from other territories owned by another Visiting Angels franchise. I would caution working for people with poor business ethics. If they will rip-off their partners, they likely view employees as disposable. Owner prohibits caregivers from directly reporting suspected abuse despite caregivers being mandated reporters.
