Pros

I loved building Mack trucks on the line, really felt like a family environment. Lots of time off and great benefits. Lots of freedom, felt like I made life long friends there

Cons

Layoffs Union/UAW is absolutely clueless, the minute they found out we were getting laid off they completely turned there backs on us. 2 Union reps tried denying us company earned benefits when it was stated in the handbook clear as day that we receive them. They try pinning you against the company but at the end of the day the company was the only one to actually give us clear answers. It really left a bad taste in many employees mouths on the total incompetence most Union reps. Unfortunately many production employees were just down right lazy. I've never met so many "grown men" that cried like little babies. It's very unfortunate that kind of attitude exists and is prevalent in the facility.

Bad boss makes for a bad experience

Pros

Competitive vacation time and compensation

Cons

Unfortunately, like any other workplace, a horrible boss makes for a horrible working environment. I was especially disappointed in the inept HR department, who received numerous serious complaints regarding the behavior of my boss over the years and did nothing about it. Talented employees just continued to leave. I've heard stories from people in other departments - it's a great place to work if your department is well-run. My advice to job-seekers is this - if you get a funny feeling during your interview that something is "off", it probably is. Please don't let the vacation time and salary sway you. It's not worth it.

Pros

good benefits, okay pay, cafeteria onsite, work gym, good people (generally)

Cons

Low starting salary when young& new so you get pigion holed (+2.5-3.5% annually) long term. Either jump between departments or leave then come back for advancement. Non-empowered (decisions made by Swedes) & silo (not my within my job scope= don't care) work mentality.
