Pros

Company is growing and is been very stable. It is a great place to work but the big downside is that they do not give out merit raises so be prepaired to stay at the salery that you get hired at.

Cons

They do not believe in giving out merit raises.

Pros

The company is growing rapidly. Along with the rapid growth in personnel, there has been signficiant growth and progress in enginering methodologies and processes. This has made the working experience considerably better. The company has also done a good job providing equipment and tools needed to complete the work. One of the great benefits of working for Western Digital are the generous bonuses they give twice each year. When the company is doing well as it is now, the bonuses can be very good. The working environment is generally good. Engineers help one another out and are willing to share and communicate ideas.

Cons

The program managers are extremely demanding. Every program manager thinks their program has top priority. Unfortunately, there's only so many engineers to go around and fix their problems. On top of that, they drive unrealistic schedules that are never met. The first realistic schedule will be the first one. Meanwhile, the software managers are very soft. They never stand up and push back on unrealistic schedules and completely bend over when the heat is on. The employees end up having to work late nights and weekends for every drive program. Some managers are also technically weak and even incompetent. The company does not conduct an annual salary. Some employees have not received a raise in 5 years. You read that right. 5 freakin' years. The cost of gas has doubled within the last 5 years, yet the company can't give an employee a sniff at a raise.

Pros

It provides opportunities for personal grow at least in technical skills and communication skills. It provides the tools, and the freedom that you need to make a decision on your own. You also get advice from management for the what you have done. At least, in my department with the current position, I have the opportunities to learn the latest technologies and use the best tools for my software development. The company also provides education reimbursement and that fit my goal for the next two years. Another good thing is that although the company no longer gives out stock options, it gives bonus every half year.

Cons

Workplace and parkings are horrible. It tries to save money and cut cost by reducing cubicle space. At the same time, there is not enough parking space for employees. Multiple levels of management matrix makes it difficult for employees to report. In some group, an employee may have to report to several managers at a time. Too many level management seems to create a lot of overhead, as the middle level in some situation directly manages a group of engineers, but is a manager on top of another manager of another group. The company has not had salary review and given raises to employees for years. Many employees believe that they are underpaid.
