Pros

HGST still has some of its good bones inherited from IBM. For those who don't know, HGST goes back to the days when IBM sold its hard drive division and some other assets to Hitachi. Good management teams. Good benefits and competitive pay.

Cons

While HGST is now a part of Western Digital, there have been operational constraints imposed on HGST due to regulatory action from China. This has been complicating things with regard to the future direction and structure of HGST.

Pros

Work is challenging and good opportunities to strengthen skills in FW debugging. Lower managers and other engineering staff are very respectful and good to work with. Bonuses are excellent. Technology sharing is encouraged.

Cons

Surprise layoffs and attrition in the past few years have been hurting moral. Hard to be promoted. Code is matured and not much opportunity to do any major code development.

HGST has a good forward thinking management team. Good incentives make us feel appreciated & motivate us to move forward with the company.

Cons

The uncertainties over the MOFCOM issue. Certain areas tend to be quite bureaucratic.
