Pros

Great co-workers who all had a high level of quality and passion for all products and in everything they did. Created life-long friends and networking relationships.

Cons

High upper management was very bad in/lacked any clear communication to those below them. Never really gained any sense that they cared about the employees. Looking back I see the signs in the company that foreshadowed WD's decision to cut nearly 95% of the QA department. How they plan on maintaining any real sense of quality in their current and future products is beyond me. With the merger with HGST I can see WD being swallowed up/completely integrated into HGST itself with WD only remaining in name. (This is just my opinion and not based on any inside info.) Work/Life Balance was very weak. I put myself in 110% (long hours during the week, coming in on Saturdays) yet none of that mattered. Looking back and knowing now what I know I would not have wasted my time and life to the extent that I did.

Pros

Generally a solid company in the hard drive sector. I doubt they are going anywhere anytime soon.

Cons

- Outdated processes and procedures. - Pay isn't always competitive (bonuses don't count -- especially since they have sucked recently). They will always say that your salary is competitive because of bonuses, but when the company has a bad year, that part of your salary is held hostage. Then your pay might not be competitive anymore, especially if you started here straight out of college. - High deductible health plan. - Knowledge needed to complete tasks is often difficult to obtain.

Pros

Big company doing good in terms of stocks and growth. Good to have this company on your resume. Good medical and dental benefits.

Cons

As the tile says, Upper management does not have any knowledge of how to run a software company. They are making new processes and all going in a circle without any improvement in employees satisfaction. Everyone wants to take charge and drive without any knowledge of what to do.
