Once you get into a position, you better be comfortable because that's where you'll be staying!
Pros
Great Benefits! In 2008 and before it was $46 a week for a family of 5 for medical, vision and dental, but come 2009 it went up to almost $90 for the same. Low co-pays, no referrals needed for specialist, and anywhere from 7 to 15 bucks for prescriptions. Oh and dentists visits twice a year for preventative care (cleaning and x rays) is free.
Cons
If you are a family member or friend of the family of a high ranking manager then you will have NO PROBLEM moving up in the company! Almost 9yrs with the company and many applications for different positions later and I've had a cousin, 2 daughters, sons best friend, a few son in-laws, and even a neighbor(of a high ranking manager) get chosen over me for positions that I was more than qualified for, that even my supervisor went and put in a good word for me to get the position, but still was not chosen. Why? Because with Waste Management, when they put up a new opening on the job board the do it already having someone in mind. But yet they still "play along" and give interviews to the unfortunate drones who've applied because its mandatory (was told this by 2 upset managers..upset that I wasn't chosen) and have these people(including myself) holding onto their chairs in anticipation of the possibility of getting the position...but no...because they already had someone else in mind. So I've finally given up trying to apply for new positions within the company...been trying for 8yrs...and now am looking for another job altogether. They view their employees as minions! Lol Sad but true. OK Pay, Great benefits, Good time off....ABSOLUTELY NO JOB GROWTH! Waste Management could care less about career advancement for their own employees! And I can PROMISE you this because after being with one office for a few year I then transferred to a different office in a DIFFERENT STATE several hundred miles away....same thing!
