      Stressful and Toxic Environment

      Pros

      Some strong technical departments including transportation and tunneling engineering. Opportunity to learn and be involved on large projects.

      Cons

      Constant turnover and reorganizations. We have lost hundreds of people through waves of layoffs and voluntary departure over the last few months. Leadership is out of touch and only care about financials. HUGE disconnect between WSP's branding and reality on the ground. Not a good time to join this firm.

      Pros

      WSP is very generous with the amount of vacation time they start new employees with. The company also invests a tremendous amount of money into employee training and development. The company is also very community-oriented and is very active with several organizations.

      Cons

      The insurance is not that great and is rather expensive. Managers are inaccessible and Implement a fear-based management approach. If you are hired by this company some managers will expect you to stay there for your entire career and threatened to call prospective employers that you receive offers from and tell them that you are off limits. Managers are also not receptive to first line supervisors taking charge on projects.

      Pros

      Larger company still has access to more international and mega-projects and major clients - but usually forced to use cheapest staff so access to opportunities can be limited and very political. Result can be beneficial for junior staff giving exposure but limited support can lead to discouraging failure with no senior backup.

      Cons

      Cost pressure from highly leveraged acquisition still felt, impacting benefits, training & employee programs as well as endless billability pressure (like all A&E firms but targets pushed higher over the years for same grades). Results in bad morale and mid level employee retention issues.
