Pros

Pay was ok given I am a single recent college grad with no kids. A 44 hour workweek was good because you always have automatic overtime and won't wind up woking 60 hours a week.

Cons

Training is almost nonexistant. I was hired right before Christmas (dumb choice for them) and put off to the side and spent most of my days on the register for the 1st couple of weeks. My store manager acted as if it was a chore to teach me what I needed to know as a manager. Once I got some training, I thrown into the fire and pretty much ran the entire store when I was on shift. The pay was ok but it was not worth the amount of work you do. I made 15.90/hr. I often did not take a lunch, and if i did it was for 30 mins. And as for breaks? Forget about it!! My manager told me that assistant manager don't take breaks...unless you're a smoker of couse, as she was, so then it was ok to take a break. I hated this job so much I finally quit and took a massive paycut to enjoy my work.

Pros

It is a strong position to launch one's professional career. It builds many of the basics necessary to suceed in the business world.

Cons

The job is very borin and there is a huge turnover rate. The managment does not seem happy to be there. Customers can be difficult to deal with.

Pros

There are flexible schedules. Compensation seems comparable. As long as you have the right store manager, the job can be fun and rewarding.

Cons

You have to be willing to swing shifts including midnights. There are far fewer advancement opportunities now that the company's strategy is switiching to from expansion to cost control. If you have the wrong store manager, then in can be an intolerable situation. Some managers do not seem to understand there are only so many ways to build a toilet paper floor stack.
