      How Much Money Do Wal-Mart's CEO's Need to Make? Where is the money for the Associates?

      Pros

      I was laid off my job that I went to school for. I could not find a job but Wal-Mart hired me. I've stayed due to that. Over the last few years it has gotten worse. Management has a job to do and its stressful and they pass that on down to the associates. Its horrible!!!

      Cons

      Management does not care about anything but money. I've been in three stores and this last store, the management team does nothing but walk around at night. When associates need help, they ignore the calls and/or you can't find them. Management expects the overnight associates to do more work with the freight that is humanly possible. No thanks, no nothing, in fact, they take away money from us and hours that we worked. If associates had 42 hours in a work week and the budget calls for only 40 hours, the management team can manipulate the system and take away those 2 hours even though associate worked it. It sucks. The associates do not get enough pay to begin with.

      Pros

      The pay I receive is better than most places I worked at.

      Cons

      As a professional optician, still treated as if I were a cashier. The notion that all are created equal at Wal-Mart does not hold if you are an educated professional plus licensed by the state to do your job. Communications- current dept. manager dose not share infor with others in the dept. after management meeting. Feedback- never get any feedback as to how well or improvement opportunities that may be required by me. Work/Life Bal - always work weekends while management has off.

      Pros

      The compensation package is excellent. Between health care, the discounts, and whatnot, things are good. For example, if one is called to serve on a jury, not only do you get what the state pays you for your time, but you still get your regular pay. It takes an act of congress to get fired from the store. The attendance policy is a complete joke--but you can work it to your favor. I also like the stoke plan. I like being able to have the money automatically taken out of my check so that I don't ever see it; if I don't see it in the bank, I don't miss it.

      Cons

      You work your butt off with an only "We appreciate every thing you do." They are not glad, nor thankful, but appreciative. The other think you have to make sure you know the attendance, dress code, and attendance policies down to the letter--they will try to get you if you let them. On day one, get on the wire and look them up, print them out, and learn them--and then every few months check for any changes.Know the Wal-Mart system so management can't try to get you on anything. This is how I have survived here as long as I have.
