Watco in Houston for employment

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Some good people work for the company who are very knowledgable.

Cons

The good people are the ones they take advantage of. Total disorganized in Houston with a poor record for quality and efficiency. You have to be in the click to see any advancement or be a yes man. Management talks out of both sides of its mouth when they starting talking family.

Pros

Great team member support, and extremely supportive of Veterans and actively recruit both separated Vets, and those like me, who continued to serve in the Guard and Reserves. Watco has not only supported me, but actively tries to hire and support Vets due to their experience working outdoors in adverse conditions, mission forward attitude, and leadership experience we bring. As a growing company, there is a very high opportunity for advancement especially for those who are mobile and can take advantage of openings at locations around the US. Company appreciates the ability to work with people, desire to help, and drives the servant leadership model. Training is provided, unlike going to work for a larger railroad, where you have to pay thousands for your own initial training before even being hired, Watco will pay you during training. Railroad Retirement.

Cons

Watco is growing fast, and a demanding 24/7 workplace. training someone to work takes a lot of time, so often short handed of experienced workers. Lot of focus on new railroads, not as much on old railroads. Older locomotives and track.

Just some advice

Pros

If you are fired and write the CEO he will write you back at least once but after that Veterans losing their job and home are of no concern to him.

Cons

If you are fired from here and go to file unemployment make sure you file with the Railroad Retirement Board first. The company and the state will not tell you this till you are about to lose your house because both do not care. And if you have not been employed for at least 5 months you do not qualify for unemployment through the Railroad. Even the Railroad retirement board member I spoke with had nothing great to say about this company and was very helpful in getting me what I needed.
