Pros

The pay is good, the benefits are great. Located in an easy to commute location in NYC.

Cons

Terribly monotonous job, not a shred of excitement on anything you do here. I don't know about upper management but mid management is absolutely clueless about things. I see a culture where it is taboo to say you don't know something. This in turn breeds a culture where everybody acts like they know everything. There is absolutely no leadership here. All in all, a career dead-end for a technical person (unless he wants to get to the business end of things).

Worked like employee, paid as contractor

Pros

Brand recognition good for resume Work remotely for some positions

Cons

Classifies workers as Contractors rather than employees to avoid paying taxes or benefits. Contractors required to work certain times/shifts as an employee but not treated as one Paychecks are irregular, never know when they will arrive even with DD, and when they are weeks late Contractors are told they need to "budget" rather than fixing the issue of nonpayment Higher positions are never hired "within", they don't even alert current workers to opportunities, but simply hire out, leaving no room for advancement Managers do not utilize workers skills/talents efficiently, rather treated as bean counter Communication between multiple (unnecessary amount of) managers to staff is convoluted. Not uncommon for several emails within minutes to change plans, clear up communication, etc. Hire new contractors for higher pay than long time (8yr) veterans in same position. Took 3 months for a pay raise to equal, but nothing more for seniority pay.

Pros

Interesting space, great brand for your CV. If you don't mind not advancing, and always keep your head down, probably ok.

Cons

Certain senior management's imperial style is fostering a culture of fear and favoritism that is severly hindering good communications, sharing of differing ideas and opinions, and morale overall. Passive-aggresive is the order of the day in some areas. If you're not on the special list, you effectively don't exist - or are at least treated that way. If you don't need to know, you stay in the dark. Stress and workload have gone up considerably over the past 9 months. 55+ hours/wk is becoming more and more common. Still struggling to innovate and get new capabilities out to market. Employee development and training is almost non-existent.
