Pros

The friendships you make with your coworkers will get you through all of the negative aspects of this job. Working at the front desk, you are given more power than the average part time employee. Half the time, you are basically the "manager" of the front end and cashiers. Customer interaction is constant, so if you're a people person, you'll love it. Obviously you'll get a few crabby people, but the sweet regulars make it worth while. Weis Markets is also significantly eco-friendly. It is truly impressive just how much they have done within their company to make the world a better place.

Cons

First and foremost, the polos you have to wear are god awful. They are a thick, not breathable fabric, and not to mention, UGLY. Ever since they started the "Just Say Yes" program, your hands are tied as to what you can offer customers. You can literally have someone swearing and screaming at you (even with your manager standing right there) and nothing will be done. They just try and make the customer happy, which is important, but so is the morale of your staff. And letting your employee get called a nasty name for something ringing up wrong at a different register that they had no control over in the first place (true story, by the way)...that doesn't raise morale at all, not even a little. Senior management really doesn't care too much about the job itself. And the ones that do get worked to the bone, while the others sit in the office all day. Benefits are lacking, and are ridiculously expensive. There are no consequences for being a bad employee. "No call, no show" 12 times in 3 weeks and they'll probably still keep you aboard, which makes employees that actually do their job well feel unappreciated. I never got any of the raises I was promised, neither did a good majority of my coworkers. Which might have something to do with the HR person that didn't do her job in any sense of the word. But still, I put in several complaints about it to corporate, and nothing was ever done. This company tends to just copy other companies in how they run. Walmart ups their minimum wage to $9.25; Weis raises theirs to $9.00. Giant has a Lowest Price Guarantee item every week; and shortly after, would ya look at that, now Weis does too.
