Pros

Reasonable Work From Home options Diversity and Inclusion seems to be their goal within the workplace Compensation/benefits are really good. Core values seems good. Collaborative spirit, helpful colleagues, "in it together" attitude of most coworkers.

Cons

Stated values and follow-through on them are sometimes a hit/miss: "We want you to succeed." but on your own time. eg: "Drop what you're doing (project A) and do this other project (project B)... " "What's your status on Project A? What?! Why aren't you done with that yet?!" Well, Project B. "No, you should be done with Project A before B..." But you said to drop everything and do project B... "No no no, you need to finish Project A now. Well, we'll have to notify the stakeholders of this delay..." Do more with less Time- Unreasonable expectations on project completion and then a subtle blame game afterwards. Too much work, not enough people- I supported well over 20 different applications, often being asked to become the SME over a weekend. Even with overseas consultants, the amount of work was simply too much. Too many current applications susceptible to outages due to time-line focus vs quality - it's an amazing applications (when it works...) Siloed teams, with a vague awareness of other teams working other applications: Effective Communication is lacking (between projects and project teams)

No Work Life Balance

Pros

Benefits are mostly same as other DesMoines companies but Pension is a good perk. Wellness Center is awesome- Building is nice. Ramp is great and I feel safe walking to and from my car.

Cons

Pretty bad culture overall but especially in IT. Current CEO not much for work life balance. Doesn't trust anyone to work remotely. Some Leaders also don't trust and micromanage. Resources are stretched thin. Projects are estimated by Senior Leaders and all projects are stressful and chaotic trying to meet ridiculous timelines. It is extremely difficult working with 70% contractors/consultants. Long time knowledge has either left or laid off only to bring in more consultants or off shore workers replacing the full time employees. Full time employees have a hard time training consultants and off shore on top of doing the job of 3 employees. Developers are dropping like flies. Raises are minimal and not based on merit. Promotions go to the favorites regardless of skill. No value in current employees. IT management is courting a younger age group and they are the ones getting the perks-conferences and training. If you have been with the company for awhile you are old news. I grew up thinking that hard work paid off...it does not pay off here. People have to BEG for years for a promotion unless you are one of the employees who are favored and are in the spotlight. They move up FAST.
