Wells Fargo Pro's and Con's

Pros

The position, during the craze from low interest rates during 2019-2022, allowed for people who wanted to work hard, meant they could make very good money. Leads would call in, and would rarely have to cold call.

Cons

Wells Fargo is a large company and you are treated like a number and not a person. Very poor culture, resulting in very few co-workers, team members, and managers who are willing to help you individually or even help a team succeed. Think of when you call a cable company and how horrible it is to get quality assistance, the same is true internally at Wells. You can ask for help and be railroaded with the same answer or non answer, if you are even helped by anyone. This happened in many situations, such as when trying to find alternative ways to overcome an objection or roadblocks, and even when just trying to find a solution for a unique situation. In the end I was sold on working there due to the claim of the company "changing the culture" with a new person running the entire mortgage department, as well as believing that there are opportunities to grow in the company. Culture was horrible, communication within wells was horrible, and although it was a great opportunity to make good money, again you were just a number and no awards helped anyone as Wells over hired during the boom, and since then has laid off thousands and has almost completely gotten out of the mortgage industry.

Pros

Wells Fargo offers an excellent benefits package. They also provide a retirement program that is flexible. If hired at a "good" location the experience is fantastic working for this company.

Cons

With the recent changes in their staffing model and the push to digitally focused banking, Wells Fargo has lost sight of their employee care. The company has gone from a growth driven employer to one that offers few opportunities for advancement and prefers to hire externally for upper management roles. Employees who voice concerns or mention areas for improvement are disregarded. When human resources become involved it is clear that the only concern is for the company and not for the employee. Examples include: part time schedules being irregular/illogical and occasionally difficult to accommodate - leading to termination, tenured employees being singled out and targeted as argumentative or disruptive when discussing concerns, new hires being blamed for errors that would not fall under their control, and several other concerns. This was witnessed first hand and ultimately led to my departure from the company.

Toxic Culture

Business Outlook

Pros

Wells Fargo as a company appears to be advanced in services provided.

Cons

The people are toxic, bullying is condone, they really do not care about their employee or customer's over all well-being. Victims of bullying end up being moved away, even given new job positions, from the aggressor. The aggressor continues their behavior and the lack of victim support discourages future victims, and witnesses, from coming forward. A sales consultant was placing unreasonable expectation and was being very aggressive towards me as a client service officer. My manager would say just ignore them, no one takes their complaints seriously. However, when the consultant made complaints, my manager would provide me negative feedback. When the consultant's bullying cross the line, my manager response to my complaint was shaming. I have shared my stories with others and found that this was very common throughout our department. It appears to me that toxic people get promoted and the supportive good people quit. Turnover is HIGH!
