Lots of good and Lots of bad

Pros

Employee ownership fosters a sense of actual ownership of jobs and projects. Lean initiatives have been somewhat successful, as employees buy in. They do right by their employees a lot of time, and the core values are really amazing. If they're followed, they make you feel like you're a valued member of the team. If your boss is great, your life is great.

Cons

Lots of nepotism still rampant at this company, even though HR supposedly put a stop to that. Relatives of higher up employees have lifelong jobs, no matter how they are doing. If you're not family, you have to work harder, and get paid less. Pay is sub-standard and the yearly cost of living raises are considered adequate. 3% a year is standard. Not ok. Flat organization makes it hard to get anything changed, as so many people need to approve any change that it usually loses steam and flops. Engineers make bad bosses a lot of the time, but it's the only way to move up here so that is where they end up after 20 years. Misogyny and unfair treatment of women is rampant. Pay gaps, lack of promotion and being called "honey: happen a lot.

Pros

Exposure to projects with some of the best engineering and construction firms in the country. Management is finally taking proactive steps to eliminate some "dead weight" throughout the company.

Cons

Pay and benefits are lagging behind the market, and as a result the talented and ambitious employees are likely to leave. Flat company structure leaves little room for advancement within one's current group, usually requiring a move to a new product line/group for promotion.

Don't bother.

Pros

The odds of you getting fired is almost zero. The company tries to celebrate success. The core values of the company are good when they are followed. Most of the company is more focused on the employees and the customers rather than making money for the sake of making money.

Cons

Sales staff is arrogantly ignorant. They know best, even when they know nothing at all. If you are looking to move up, plan on moving on. Your only other hope is that your supervisor leaves. They are actively trying to only pay median wages. If you are an A employee, expect C pay. The heath insurance is terrible. Groups implement (or don't implement) policy differently. If the group doesn't like something, they may simply ignore it. The group level managers' decisions are often overruled by the sales managers. The sales managers will also make decisions for things that affect the groups, but not even tell the group leaders. The groups then have to deal with the consequences of decisions that they had nothing to do with. The company values are ignored by many, including some in management.
