Fantastic Culture, Promising Growth Trajectory
Pros
Can't say enough positive things about Whanot. Definitely the best job I've ever had, and most people who work here say the same. The co-founders really care about their employees, and it shows in the culture here. Whatnot moves at an extremely quick pace, and has a very high bar for talent. But they pay very well, offer competitive benefits, and offer ample time off to recharge. General experience working here is that you are expected to deliver, but the company will support you in ways that motivate to go above and beyond. You're also expected to live and breathe the product. So if you're interested in working here, definitely download the app and engage with the product early in the screening process. Every employee receives $500 per month to purchase items on the app. The expectation is that you use the app regularly and submit feedback to our product team on how to improve it. The culture is all about focusing on what matters, and having time in the day to focus on your work. For example, we have "no zoom Wednesday" where everyone is expected to have a full day to focus on work. And the planning and performance review processes are deliberately lightweight and fast-paced, so the company can continue executing instead of being bogged down with administrative tasks.
Cons
The hiring process can be quite lengthy because Whatnot is only interested in hiring the best of the best. Even after you pass all the interviews, you'll be asked to submit 3 references. If they don't come back absolutely stellar, you can be rejected at this stage. Work life balance can also be a struggle. Most everyone who works here loves their job and team, but it does take most of your time and focus to succeed. Definitely not a 9 to 5 if that's what you're looking for.
