Raises done on a yearly cycle for all employees. If you don't start before Jan. 1 that year then you must wait until the following year for an increase. This means in some cases you wait almost 1.5 years before a raise!
Furthermore, raises done on unknown/obscure mathematical equation that effectively means less than a .25 cent raise for those in customer support each year. This is why the "Compensation and Benefits" score is low. The benefits are great but the compensation is not.
While plenty of project work is offered and the company claims to promote from within, a divide seems to exist between those upstairs and those in customer support. Employees who have done work for the company above and beyond their job description are not usually compensated monetarily for it and, when a position in the project area opens up, CS employees have not lately been considered or even interviewed. While historically they have promoted from within, that policy appears to have changed in the last year or so.
