Pros

Wiley is has excellent benefits and considers itself "The Place to Be" It has a 8:30-4:30 work day, company sponsored cafeteria, company bus that takes you to and from Manhattan, 401K and traditional pension, very nice holiday parties, mother's room for lactating mothers and an all around congenial work environment.

Cons

There is really a lack of career development. There are basically 3 tracks: Editorial, Marketing and Production. If you do not start out in sales there is very little chance that you can advance in Editorial or Marketing. Unfortunately, you can not get any entry sales rep position unless you are < 3 years out of college. What that means is if you don't make publishing your career choice out of college forget about it for a career with growth.

Pros

John Wiley & Sons offers a great work / life balance, hours are flexible based on your own schedule however generally 9-5, dress code is casual and the atmosphere is very friendly and collegial. Teamwork is outstanding and management is trying to create an environment where people help each other with only very personal and political animosities.

Cons

John Wiley & Sons was a rather conservative working environment and as somewhat common in the Publishing industry things tend to move somewhat slowly. For people seeking a very fast paced environment that presents ongoing challenges and day to day changes Wiley might not be the best place to start looking.
