Pros

Williams has a long history with a solid culture based on stated "Core Values & Beliefs" that are used to guide decisions and behavior. When times were tough, the company was good about doing everything they could to avoid layoffs. When it was inevitable (2002), they gave more than fair severance and as much leeway as they could. The biggest impression on me was made during 911. Because we did business with Cantor Fitzgerald on the 106th floor, there were some close ties to that building. Within a couple of hours after the first plane struck the tower, the Williams call center had organized the tracking of a "safe" list and provided an 800 number for people all over the country to check someone's name or to provide a person's safe status. Our group manned the call center for four days straight until other employees volunteered in shifts around the clock, some of us napping under our desks. I worked there for 12 years and held various jobs, starting in Energy, Marketing & Trading and ending with the Exploration and Production division which spun off into its own company Jan 2012. Cons

The company always ran pretty lean and wasn't the most competitive in pay. Some business units in the company (not ours) had a negative experience when Williams merged or bought their company and took a long time to feel fully integrated.
