Pros

You can get a lot of courtroom experience quickly, getting you out of the office. For insurance defense, they pay in the top tier.

Cons

Becoming an equity partner is very difficult as the partners fight over credit for work, even when you bring it into the firm. There is no training or formal mentoring program as young associates are "thrown into the fire." The endless push for more billable hours is a drain as you see the salary pale in comparison to BigLaw billing the same number of hours.

Pros

If you are first year associate who can't get another job, you can at Wilson Elser. You will get into court a great deal and after a year be able to take that experience and find a position with another firm. If you went to a lower tier school, you can also get a job here as a first year associate. You will travel to take depositions and make court appearances so you will be thrown into actual practice right away. If you are director level staff, you can get away with practically anything as long as Tom will likes you.

Cons

Overgrown shabby Mom and Pop store
