Pros

There's a free gym, casual dress code, engineering work is not at all intellectually difficult, and good health insurance is offered.

Cons

Cree can be summed up by one of its core values: do whatever it takes to get the job done, whether it takes your life, marriage, etc. Cree seems to have all of the responsibility of a startup, and all of the perks of a large company.

Pros

The pay and benefits can be good. The employee stock purchase plan is also good.

Cons

First thing to understand here: when the new CEO took over, it essentially became a new mission to improve the ratings on this site. Sycophants were encouraged to write glowing reviews. HR would then thank people for positive reviews, clearly indicating they knew who was posting what. There became a consistent pattern. Anytime a former employee posted a negative review, it would suddenly be swamped by positive reviews thereafter. So, consider these reviews with some caution. The most frequent comment on here is that the management is terrible, and it certainly is. This is a true kakistocracy in action. Lazy sycophants who tow the company line are rewarded and promoted without regard for ability. In fact, ability can hold someone down -- people above do not want new thinking threatening their comfortable positions. Quality issues are rampant and repetitive. There seems to be little learning from prior history. Instead, there is a superstitious belief that nothing is understood and any change is dangerous. The company has survived by being first to market and large -- volume and brute force can go a long way. As competition increases, though, this strategy is becoming less effective and the company is struggling. Others are catching up and market share is gradually decreasing. Hard working employees are consistently taken advantage of and subjected to gaslighting. Collaboration is a farce, so these folks are forced to work very independently with no support. When they accomplish something, their work is then torn apart and degraded by forcing poor practices upon it. Eventually, the poor practices are undone and the credit for the work will go to one of the politically favored. The talent is then cast aside and the screws are turned. Relations with vendors and OEMS are quite poor. Many of them have little respect for Cree, but since there is the prospect of significant sales, they are forced to trudge on. Attempts to work with them constructively are considered sedition by paranoid upper management, regardless of the benefit it brings.
