Pros

If you enjoy helping people, you will enjoy the client's

Cons

Very little support from upper management. I not only had to take care of clients, but also was expected to babysit staff. As a teacher, it was somehow my fault if an aide went off to talk to a friend for 20 minutes instead of going to the bathroom and immediately returning to class. I didn't have time to teach my class and manage adults who should have been able to at least sit there and be in the right place. High turnover. As a teacher, I received a class that hadn't had a teacher for months. My students spent months coloring all day prior to my arrival, as did the staff. The staff resisted having to do any actual work and made my life difficult in general when coloring time got put to a stop. Ineffective behavior management. At the time I was there, the behavior plans were written by someone without appropriate qualifications. It was more about putting out fires then preventing and teaching students what to do. Their silly insistence on what they thought was positive only procedures, until things go too far and you had to restrain, was a detriment to the clients. The pay was very low in comparison to rates in other area schools, and the benefits didn't make up for it.
