Pros

For the most part the people that work at Woods are very passionate about the work that we do here and truly care about the residents. The benefits are decent. Absolutely breathtaking campus! The individuals that we serve are the most amazing people who have taught me so much about myself.

Cons

Money. This is the largest issue as they are unable to get high caliber employees and the overall care suffers. Raises are given to EVERYONE once a year (although this is definitely not guaranteed) regardless of title and their work ethic. This is caused a insurmountable decrease in the overall moral of the staff, especially long term staff. Obviously by giving everyone a raise is extremely fair to ensure that some individuals are not left out; however maybe give a larger raise to certain hardworking employees. The level of appreciation that is shown for hard worker employees is non existent in many cases. The staff that work hard and go above and beyond are held to a different standard and asked to do the work on slacking employees. It remains very hard to advance as it appears that the atmosphere has become more political over time. Undeserving individuals are allowed to advance while the true backbone of the company is left in the shadows.

Pros

- generous benefits - the work is both rewarding and easy. You won't dread going to work every day here - you can literally wear sweatpants and slippers to work - there is a unit which will be able to suit pretty much any temperament you may have - lots of opportunities to move up in the organization - it's almost like getting paid to spend time with family

Cons

- you can't even pull out your phone to check the time - it can get extremely hectic and stressful - you may encounter extremely horrible things like rape/violence, and they stick with you - you will probably get assaulted at least once - you'll have to deal with bodily fluids

You have to love the job

Pros

I like working at Woods because I love what I do. I enjoy working with kids with special needs, I like being in the school, and I am lucky to have great coworkers. I am interested in a career as a behavior therapist so my position as a teacher's aide at Woods is a great stepping stone for me.

Cons

As much as I love my job, I wish I got paid more for the hard work that I do. The wage is low when you consider everything a direct care staff has to do and put up with throughout the day. The wages are low because one only needs to have a high school degree, but I think people with only a high school degree are not experienced enough to do well at this job. There are a lot of staff who are at Woods just to have a job and not because they care about our clients. I hate that because I care a lot and it's frustrating to see people mistreat our clients because they're lazy or paying more attention to their cell phones instead of to the kids.
