Out of touch, stagnant leadership

Pros

Great retirement benefits. Flexible work schedules (depending on your manager and job duties). Plenty of paid holidays and generous PTO for salaried employees.

Cons

Leadership is stagnant and consists of a lot of long time employees who made their way up the chain by being the next man in line when somebody moves up or quits. This is great if you just want to get a promotion, but it leads to people being in power with no skills, expertise or outside experience being brought to the organization. When somebody is being replaced, "After an exhaustive nation-wide search", it ends up being the person below them just getting promoted. They wont fire people for poor performance, they just keep letting them do a terrible job and negatively impacting those around them. The "Raises" are pathetic for working staff (1%/yr), while upper management will see raises in the tens of thousands. This is especially disturbing for a Non-Profit organization that has leadership with higher salaries than equivalent positions in larger, for-profit companies. Being a Non-Profit, take a look at the publicly available 990 form from the IRS to see for yourself. The student newspaper occasionally publishes these numbers as well.

Excellent Place to Work

Pros

The benefits of working here are great, especially if you are a working and/or single parent. The one thing I've loved about working her the most is how supportive everyone is of your work life balance. Being able to use half my sick days a year to take time off for my child has been wonderful. Additionally, the dependent educational benefits are great. Health care and other medical insurances are okay. Most people are genuinely nice here. Pay here is again just okay, but much better than the other colleges around us.

Cons

The benefit are different if you are salaried than if you are hourly. Still, not bad if you are the hourly, but it is noticeable - especially retirement benefits. While salaried people get 4 weeks of vacation right away, it will take 10 years of employment for hourly staff to reach the same level. Raises have been painfully thin the last few years.
