A Culture That Ignores Burnout

Pros

Good benefits, good pay and stocks

Cons

The culture has become increasingly unsustainable. Despite employee well-being being promoted as one of the company’s core values, the day-to-day reality tells a very different story. Long working hours have become the norm rather than the exception. After-hours messages, late-night requests, and unrealistic expectations are common, making it extremely difficult to maintain any healthy work-life balance. Personal time is simply not respected. The most concerning part is that multiple team members have experienced health issues that were directly associated with the excessive workload and prolonged working hours. Rather than treating these situations as warning signs that the organization was understaffed or that priorities needed to change, the workload continued with little visible effort to address the underlying problems. Seeing colleagues struggle physically and mentally while business continued as usual was one of the most disappointing aspects of working here. Leadership frequently talks about caring for employees, but those messages lose credibility when people are consistently pushed beyond reasonable limits. If your culture contributes to employees becoming ill, and the response is simply to keep delivering more work, then your values exist only on paper.

Pros

Excellent engineering talent and knowledgeable coworkers. Strong engineering culture with high code quality standards. Modern technology stack and opportunities to work on large-scale enterprise software. Good work-life balance compared to many tech companies. Competitive compensation, benefits, and employee perks. Collaborative environment with supportive teammates. Opportunities to learn new technologies and grow technically. Stable development processes and mature SDLC practices. Strong emphasis on testing, code reviews, and software quality. Flexible work arrangements (depending on team).

Cons

Large organization means decision-making can be slow. Significant amount of process and bureaucracy before changes reach production. Cross-team dependencies can slow delivery. Career growth can depend on organizational priorities and manager support. Frequent reorganizations can shift priorities and disrupt long-term projects. Innovation may move slower than at smaller startups. Internal tools and processes can sometimes feel overly complex. Communication between teams can occasionally be inconsistent. Like much of the tech industry, the company has experienced layoffs, creating uncertainty for some employees. Promotions can take time and require navigating multiple approval levels.

Pros

Great culture at the peer to peer level. Excellent learning opportunities, good benefits and great name for resume.

Cons

Pretend to be transparent but a lot of smoke & mirrors. Significant cuts to comp plans & commissions that resulted in challenging pay cuts. While salaries were not reduced the OTE is no longer achievable and it’s a difference of thousands monthly, can’t even sell stock because it’s tanked. That being said, we’re disappointed in comp and stock but grateful to be employed because It’s no longer a matter of if you’ll be laid off but when.
