Good Company, Questionable IT Leadership
Pros
Good pay, great work balance, helpful team.
Cons
Micromanagement and Over-Emphasis on Mistakes: Management frequently issued blanket reminders for minor errors, which created an atmosphere of unnecessary micromanagement. Anything messed up by one person became a "Team reminder". Managers frequently would reach out to me about issues that were definitely in relation to tickets I had done, only to say it's a general reminder with no specific reason when confronted. Inefficient Escalation Process: The IT team relied too heavily on escalation procedures, leading to delays and inefficiencies. Gaps in this process where met with "It needs to be done this way, no exceptions". This once lead to a multi week delay on equipment shipping. Outdated and Inadequate Documentation: Documentation was often outdated or incomplete, leaving lower level techs to figure out complex, industry-specific software without sufficient support. Software written by contracted employees of third party companies often went without proper documentation.
