Worst place to work in the world

Pros

good on your resume. learn a lot about the non-profit, development world.

Cons

In the orientation to work at World Vision they ask the new employees, "what do you think is the most important thing to World Vision?" ...you might guess, "children" "God" "the poor" no, they let you know it is their "reputation." And as time goes on you find that this holds true, everything is about their image, it is very political and cut throat on the inside, people are constantly stabbing each other in the back. Some departments are ok to work at, but I have met a ton of people (former employees) with the same experience. Many people left and continue to leave disgruntled. It is a horrible work environment. They work you to death. Very low camaraderie. If you are a Christian and want to work in development, work at a secular non-profit. People there care about the issues and people much more than places like WV, where everyone is set on building their own kingdom and reputation.

Pros

Initial excited of serving with a faith based organization and doing good work around the world!

Cons

It doesn't take long to realize that WVI is not what it portrays to donors. I expect there to be a big unraveling of the organization in the near future due to a myriad a very serious issues ranging from confirmed child protection incidents to scamming donors, reported % of donations is much higher than what actually reaches the sponsored children's communities or programs (and no money goes directly to kids or family). This is a broken model. Meanwhile, CEO salaries are well over $500k. Lot's of infighting and people who want to keep their jobs just lay low. Don't waste your time and talent here- you will regret it.
