Pros

Amazing and kind humans! Everyone is genuinely there to work with you and there are no brilliant jerks or egos.

Cons

Pay and salary is not competitive compared to our AI tech companies.

Pros

Remote work is still an option, when many companies are going back to in person.

Cons

Leaders don't care about their employees. Managers are allowed to game the system for annual reviews to give their teams the raises and bonuses they want, regardless of actual staff performance. Everything must be AI, regardless of what customers want or need. Focus is on building shiny new toys instead of fixing core accounting system issues, and what's shiny changes every few months.

Pros

Free soda/coffee/fruit - although not really ground breaking these days Working hours feels reasonable flexible - although part of me wonders if this is more that leadership just don't care enough to question Technology - good place to experience lots of tools/services/integrations, however rate of change and flip flopping of prioritisation might mean you only scrape the surface before being moved along. IA adoption - strong push for everything AI; can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Cons

Xero has lost its heart amid asipirations to be like the big boys in the tech world. Brutal push on AI adoption and itemising value per employee to justify an engineers worth is eroding any sense of humanity and wellbeing that an engineer may have had. No consideration for wellbeing/health of individual and/or the team itself. If an engineer doesn't get the right amount of visibility with the right members of leadership then its a quick walk down the exit path regardless of their competence. Career development not given any consideration (and activly avoided), unless you are just moving through the traditional paths (eg Engineer -> Snr Engineer -> Lead/Principal Engineer).
