Good & Great Company

Pros

Xylem is one of the few companies growing in this tough economy....both organically and with acquisition. In addition, the CEO has a big focus on Watermark (www.xylemwatermark.com), a way for all of our employees to give back to our communities through volunteering and providing fresh/new water to hundreds of locations around the world who do not have access to safe drinking water.

Cons

The company is very decentralized and too complex. IT systems not strong. Management is driving simplification to help - needs to go faster.

Pros

• Surrounded by a great group of like-minded individuals who work towards providing the best solutions for scientists, researchers and water monitoring professionals around the globe. • Work with cutting edge technology. • Many opportunities for collaboration amongst divisions, offering access to professional growth and expansion of skills.

Cons

• Xylem is a "young" company and still unorganized in many key functional areas. • (In San Diego) salary does reflect cost of living. • Health/dental benefits mediocre. • Not for those who are corporate-culture adverse. • No stock option or stock-purchasing incentive program for non-executive employees. • Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. • Needs to invest in R&D before technology becomes obsolete (see bullet point above).

Always the fear of layoffs

Pros

Good people unless you're in sales dept or in head office. People all over the country work good together and care. Had good training with a person who really cared and made it a good experience even when I'd never flown before. Folks demand you stick to rules but have no idea what it's like in branches. Sales managers will do anything to make their commission and have not a clue how to do anything in the branches they run.

Cons

Been through 4 presidents in 3 years in my GC. Just had a voluntary layoff where my trainer left in June because she was certain her job was next since she was out sick this spring, plus my best AP person in our home office. Feel like I'm lost without a paddle now. Can't get the person who replaced her to help at all. The other trainer is too busy with management stuff to care about us little people.
