Pros

Good start pay for full timer. Union job with the teamsters once you get in you will get OT because people are always leaving or call out.

Cons

The hands on part was not really that great. granted my trainer was a great guy but they have you take a supposed test for fork lift and said to the one lady I did the written part just need the other. Well hang onto everything and will see what they feel like doing if you need more training. With the guy they had me with he never really went over the way bills because they had us doing other things not related to me getting trained. others have said it the forklifts have seen some better days. for some need to replace them. Don't think when you join that your the last of the hired help. they are always hiring for Dock workers and you have 90 days to prove your worth and your on a on call list. If you prove good before the 90 days and don't call out or be late your hired and can bid on your hrs. but till then your at the mercy of the on call and mostly the guys that are there at the facility get first choice then it goes by seniority on the call list. so when you start out you may or may not get a call and if you do you have only a short amount of time to call back and say your coming in. And make sure you have a cell number as your point of contact. Unless your stay at home 24/7 might as well use a cell number for this company. I learned the hard way.

Pros

Union befits .54c mi, 23$hr, paid for any time not spent driving (fueling, dropping, hooking, waiting for load, breakdown, etc) lots of dedicated otr and local runs. Decent home time.

Cons

Seniority based. Getting a bid/run that pays well as a new hire means either taking bad weather runs (seattle, portland, salt lake city, etc) or partnering with an older driver with high seniority (good for experience but has it's downfalls). If you don't want too take an OTR bid you can take your chances on the extra board. The extra board as a new hire almost promises you will be forced on sleepers with strangers or spend a lot of time at home waiting. The rules seem too vary depending on what dispatcher is working the window. I learned fast that if a certain dispatcher is working to just call another line or call back after 6.

Pros

- Most folks at YRC are honest, hard working, and try their best. - HQ office operations group seems to be well-tenured and knowledgeable. - "Employees Club" puts together lunches, happy hours, and a nice Christmas Party at the end of the year. Makes work a little more sociable than normal, which is nice. - The average workday is mostly low in stress with friendly and flexible middle management. - Nice cafeteria and a small gym on site, and a few nice outdoor areas for walking. - Pay doesn't seem high by any means, but average and adequate come to mind to describe it; which isn't that bad.

Cons

- The financially motivated job cutting and layoffs. It's one thing to have a policy of laying off continuously poor performers and replacing them. But, when a company unexpectedly lays off people with no replacement after a bad quarter or two in terms of revenue, it makes you feel like things are unstable, which seems to scare away young, talented individuals, who then just use their job as a short-term stepping stone. - People who have been with the company for many years tend to have a negative view of the current company (lots of "how it used to be good..." stories), which is also somewhat discouraging to new comers. - Company leadership seems to be reactive toward competitors rather than coming up with "our gameplan" and sticking with it.
