Company run by Headquarters in Kansas City

Pros

Not terribly difficult work, generally fixed hours, some flexibility

Cons

Repetitive work - after the first six months you start over, there's never any sense of accomplishment or progress Limited advancement potential - there are three people between Area Equipment Manager and Vice President of Maintenance and a lot of people who have been with the company for decades waiting in line ahead of you for those positions. Company is run by Headquarters in Kansas City with little interest in how things work in California: CA State Legal requirements are generally scoffed at by upper management (Not just employment law) Generally hands off from upper management until the end of the year scramble when they have to meet Stockholder expectations and you get the Corporate Vice President of Maintenance demanding to know why you ordered a $15 box of rivets. Pay is ridiculous. In Los Angeles you get paid the same as a peer in Mississippi or Indiana. In Mississippi or Indiana you can buy a decent house in a decent neighborhood and have money left over to save or take vacations or buy toys or whatever. In Los Angeles, the pay is enough to live in a shoe-box studio apartment, or a one bedroom apartment in a ghetto neighborhood infested with homeless people literally smoking crack on the front stoop of your apartment building - unless you want to drive three hours to work every day- and forget buying a house or having savings or taking vacations or even Sunday drives. And when you mention this to the people in Kansas City their response is "Well if you lived anywhere else you'd be living really well." - Fantastic, except that the Port of Long Beach and the City of Los Angeles -one of your biggest hubs- are not located anywhere else. It's not just managers salaries, YRC Freight has been barred from advertising jobs in many California Trucking Schools because their starting pay is too low.

Pros

The health insurance is good, they will hire almost anyone as long as they can pass a drug test, no prior experience need to get the job.

Cons

11.90 starting pay, on call, being a casual (part time) employee they do not tell you that you're terminated, supervisors conduct themselves in a very unprofessional way.
