Pros

Yale University has excellent benefit packages, a strong sense of community, vast resources, a world-renowned reputation, and many exciting initiatives.

Cons

Continued job layoffs that make current employees do more than one job, lack of mentoring young professionals, lack of meaningful professional development plans, lack of appreciation for going above and beyond the call of duty, and reorganizations across the University that do not achieve more efficiency or have transparency are some cons to working at Yale.

Pros

Good benefits and opportunities for personal enrichment through the broader university programs.

Cons

The Yale School of Nursing is the most toxic workplace I have experienced. Under Azita Emami, the culture is marked by intimidation rather than respect. Unrealistic expectations were imposed regardless of resources, staffing or operational realities, and employees are blamed when those expectations are not met. In my experience, communication was often manipulative, misleading, and divisive. Rather than fostering collaboration, it eroded trust, promoted anxiety and self-doubt, and damaged professional relationships among colleagues. Perhaps most troubling was the lack of empathy. Employees experiencing significant personal loss or hardship received little compassion or understanding. During my time there, I observed at least five senior leaders leave the organization within a single year. In my view, that level of turnover among experienced leaders spoke directly to the dysfunction. I see this leadership style as fundamentally inconsistent with the compassion, integrity, and respect that should define nursing. Working in this environment had a significant negative psychological impact on me. Based on my experience, I would not recommend working in an organization where this culture is allowed to continue.
